Our Profile

Mediterranean College is the first independent Anglophone College to be founded in Greece, in 1977. Since then, it has been continuously operating according to standards of countries with a long tradition in higher education, such as the United States and the United Kingdom.

Mediterranean was the first college in Greece (in 1992) to “franchise” a degree programme from a British State University. Today, in partnership with reputable UK universities and awarding bodies, Mediterranean College offers a broad portfolio of franchised undergraduate, postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses. Students have the option of registering to programmes that are delivered on a full-time or part time/ flexible mode and are taught in either English or Greek. Upon successful completion of the courses, students are awarded degrees and qualifications that are issued by the collaborating Universities awarding bodies.

Mediterranean is a College licensed and approved by the Hellenic Ministry of Education and its degrees are internationally recognised and professionally equivalent to the ones awarded by Greek State Universities. Degrees are also recognised by the UK NARIC. The College conforms to multiple quality benchmarks: It is accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC), as an institution providing higher education and is reviewed by the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), an organisation that monitors the quality standards of UK Universities.

Recognition of Degrees | Recognition by the Greek State

Degrees, awarded by European Universities to students that have completed their studies in an accredited Greek College, are recognised by the Greek State through the competent Board of the Ministry of Education (“SAEP” – Council for the Recognition of Professional Qualifications). This Council is responsible to map the degrees awarded by overseas universities with those awarded by home universities in Greece and verify whether they are equivalent in terms of the professional rights that are granted to their graduates.

As result of these regulations, Mediterranean College graduates are able to assert positions of Higher Education graduates in the public and private sector, claim promotions or salary rises, participate in programmes of “OAED” (Greek Manpower Employment Organisation) or other organisations and generally enjoy all employment rights of Greek State university graduates.

The recognition process begins with applying for Professional Equivalence and submission of all supporting documents to “SAEP” (Council for the Recognition of Professional Qualifications), which is responsible for the examination of professional equivalence and professional capabilities applications (Ministry of Education – SAEP: Andrea Panandreou 37, 151-80, Maroussi / Tel: (+30) 2103442766, (+30) 2103442824 / Fax: (+30) 2103443158 / e-mail: srpq@minedu.gov.gr). The recognition process can last up to four (4) months.

Recognition by the UK NARIC

All Mediterranean College graduates have their degree recognised by the UK NARIC (National Recognition and Information Centre). NARIC assesses and certifies that the UK University qualifications (undergraduate and postgraduate), obtained through studying at Mediterranean College in Greece, are academically and professionally equivalent to those awarded to students that have studied in a University in the UK. The UK NARIC recognition is essential for employment in the UK; however, since the UK NARIC is one of the most distinguished national recognition centres in Europe, this accreditation is highly valuable for all graduates.

Legal Framework for Degree Recognition

The College degrees recognition by the Greek State is enforced by the Ministerial Decree 38/2010 that has been amended with Laws 4093/2012 and 4111/2013. You can find here more information on the legal framework.
