This module provides theoretical foundations and workshop experiences in curriculum and instructional development necessary for educational administrators to perform the managerial and leadership functions in tailoring the standard-based curriculum to suit the students' and community's needs
At the end of this module, the student will be able to do the following:
1. Reiterate his/her own philosophy of education, goals, and specific learning outcomes.
2. Define curriculum and identify its important components.
3. Explain how a curriculum is developed, from inception until completion, and beyond.
4. Analyze and synthesize various educational theories and principles to provide a holistic operational background for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a curriculum.
5. Evaluate various curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation models.
6. Develop a personal belief system, philosophical viewpoint, and approach to curriculum and instructional
development and related issues.
A survey of curriculum theories including theories pertaining curriculum planning and development, curriculum implementation and curriculum evaluation models: an overview of curricular frameworks as processes and plans embodying particular views of the role of education at philosophical, policy and practical level; relating these perspectives to international trends in curriculum constructs; contextualising curriculum stances and student needs; the role and purposes of assessment in curriculum plans and designs.
